La Belle Époque

Auditorium - Subs - Friday 6 Dec 2019, 15:30

Daniel Auteuil’s illustrator is given the chance to visit a different era to re-valuate his life, in this resplendent slice of speculative fiction. A delightful closing film for this Festival with it’s gorgeous sets featuring a superb cast.

Nicolas Bedos’ second feature boasts a spritely up-to-the-minute script which turns on a Westworld-like dramatic conceit that permits well-heeled customers to revisit old times and play out fantasies of the past recaptured.

Auteuil, in his element, plays a cartoonist who is given the opportunity to relive his past in order to save his marriage to Fanny Ardant as a psychoanalyst all set to a soundtrack of hits from the likes of Dionne Warwick and The Monkees. Great fun! “Handsomely crafted, ‘La Belle Époque’ cleverly works through the complications of blurring fact and fantasy.” – Screen. (Subtitles)
